Craft and Produce
We have been having work done on the house for the last 18 months, extending and adding a new kitchen. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, we have had several delays which in turn has had a knock on effect with availability of our craft and produce items.
We should be up and running by Summer/Autumn 2015 with a small selection. These will be displayed on our website under the relevant headings.
Apples
We had a good crop of apples this year and we managed to get round to picking most of them with the help of Richard from Pant Du.
We had a great time at his first ever 'Gala Fala' ('Apple Gala') in September. It was a big success! Well done Richard and Iola. Watch out for next year's Apple Gala at Pant Du.
We have also dabbled with making cider and apple juice for ourselves. The cider will be ready next Summer. We will let you know what it tastes like. So far we have mixed success with the apple juice. The favourite seems to be St Edmunds Pippin. We intend to graft more trees in the Spring.
We have also been busy making crab apple jelly and chutneys for Christmas presents. We hope to be able to put some on sale next year. We have designed new labels for our produce and have decided to call the business Afal Euriadd. Please see our produce section under Apples or Preserves for more information.
For the last few years the apple orchard has been somewhat neglected but our aim next Spring is to bring it back into good condition. There are a few trees that have suffered but most have survived the neglect very well. We welcome visitors to the orchard but please phone first. The best time to visit is May when the blossom is out or October when most of the apples are ready to pick.
With over 170 varieties it is a very interesting orchard. We have learnt an awful lot about apples in the last few years! We had no idea there were so many varieties. Over the coming years, we aim to add further varieties.
We have even managed to create a database and catalogue them all. Our next mission is to label ALL the trees.
Alpacas
We were also delayed in mating our alpacas this year but are hopeful for new arrivals in August 2015. We still have all our fibre from the shearing sitting in the barn waiting to be sorted and combed. This is another job destined for next Spring. With all the building work going on, there is nowhere yet to store it once it's sorted.
If there are any spinners out there willing to give up a few hours, teaching us how to spin, in exchange for some fibre, please feel free to get in touch!
This website is in the process of being updated. Some pages will currently have little or no information. Please bear with us whilst we work on the site. Most of the pages wil eventually have pictures to accompany them.
